Learn to Fly

The next few weeks will be busy.

First, I've been called to jury duty on May 9.  (Why me?  If anything it should be big AC--he's the reason we're here!  But I digress.) Part of me hopes that I will be assigned to a case simply so I can chicken out of the big event of that week: Little AC will transition out of Early Intervention when she turns 3.  This means that she will no longer receive every-other-week home visits by R, her service coordinator, nor will she be eligible to attend her twice-weekly playgroups.  The penultimate session of the former occurred today, and I almost choked up towards the end as little AC quietly asked, "R go work? R no go work" as R wrote out her visit notes.

I'm not sure I'll be able to hold it together during her last playgroup on May 12.  Most outgoing students have a little celebration that last day, with cake or cupcakes and a "goodbye" book full of pictures of him/her at playgroup.  Big AC is taking the day off to be there too.  This has been little AC's first real group of friends, and sometimes on non-playgroup days she'll ask for them.  The head teacher and the aides are so fond of her.  During the mid-year evaluation in January, when little AC was assessed to see whether she still qualified for services based on her progress, one of the women confided that she had subbed in her playgroup one day and somehow little AC's name came up and her head teacher had gushed, "Isn't she the cutest?!"

Fortunately, there will be a big distraction from this bittersweet milestone.  My mom is coming to visit again, this time for ONE WHOLE MONTH!  She arrives late in the afternoon of little AC's birthday.  I'm already brainstorming what activities we can pack in during that month, especially since the weather will be SO much better than when she came in November.  For one, we will all be heading to Connecticut and Rhode Island as big AC will be attending lectures in each location on May 20 and 21.  This also means that big AC and I will hopefully get at least one date night while she is here--most likely it will be to watch "Hangover 2."

Just writing this blog post is making me feel not so weepy.  But stay tuned to see how that transition week turns out.  Will I be called to serve on a case?  Will I frighten the children as I weep on little AC's last day?

It'll be alright *hug* This is a milestone and it's nice she's had a positive experience with her playgroup buddies, teachers, and aides. Enjoy CT & RI... I only saw a few stops from within an Amtrak train!

Aw, thanks, Christina! *hug*
I actually have two updates:
1. My summons has been cancelled!
2. Big AC has a mandatory training to attend at the exact same time as little AC's playgroup :( But the woman who comes for home sessions will be there, so hopefully that will help me hold my composure ;)
