Closing Time

It's been 3 weeks since we signed closing documents on the house. It was a very frustrating experience, because we found out that our contact at the bank went on maternity leave and did not bother to tell us. The only thing her voicemail said (at her office and on her cell phone) was that she was out of the office, and to contact her assistant. For those of us who have been made the point of contact when bosses are out of the office, we know what that means: double the workload, less time in the day. Now we are finding out that we were supposed to do not 1, but 2 walk-throughs prior to closing, with a final walk-through 30 days after moving in. Which I need to follow up on, because we've found irritating stuff: the A/C did not work (and we discovered this during a heat wave where temps hit 100 for the first time in almost a decade), and none of the outlets in little AC's room work! AC is getting frustrated with the things we are finding. The reason this whole transaction was so rushed was the deadline for the first-time homebuyer tax rebate.

Anyway, here we are. The day we moved in, a group of kids from the apartments across the street ran over to greet us, and immediately asked if they could come in! Apparently, everyone on that side has been curious about these houses. We finally made it over to the little playground over the weekend, but I won't be taking little AC there anytime soon. It's MUCH smaller than the playground we had at Alterra at Overlook Ridge, it's been tagged (with a sharpie, not a big fat tagging marker), and there was pee on one of the slides the day we went. Ugh.
