You/Belong in a Zoo...

Tuesday, August 3 was National Night Out. In Boston, the Franklin Zoo hosted the event by offering free admission, free food, and entertainment. A random woman (we don't know if she was a volunteer) took one look at big AC and said, "free food is by the lion exhibit." He thanked her and then said to me, "is it that obvious [that he likes to eat]?" Little AC got several coloring books and crayons, and boxes of sidewalk chalk from Target, which was (unfortunately) one of the sponsors. Sadly for me, the free food consisted of hot dogs and your choice of Doritos, plain Lays, or smartfood popcorn. Outside the zoo, Boston PD had several of their Harleys for kids to sit on for photo ops and to play with the sirens. They also had the SWAT vehicle below. Little AC got inside but did not want to come out-- she kept saying she wanted to drive it! Pictures of the inside were not allowed "for counterterrorism reasons." There was also a bomb squad vehicle with a bomb detonating robot and suit on display, and coloring books, stickers, and crayons were distributed from a Boston EMT gurney next to an ambulance. Given the majority population that attended, big AC and I couldn't help but sadly wonder if this would be some kids' only interaction with the good side of BPD...
